Men's Basketball Dispatched by Hope in Be Like Tye Game

ALMA, Mich. - The Alma College Men's Basketball team delivered a determined performance, ultimately falling 77 to 54 to Hope College. This Saturday afternoon game marked both Senior Day and the Be Like Tye Game. Tye Edwards, a beloved Alma Basketball Alumni, embodied resilience, leadership, and sportsmanship before his passing in 2021. His legacy of dedication continues to inspire the Scots both on and off the court.

The game stated as a battle, with both teams trading early baskets. After that Hope would pull away and find themselves with a lead of 19-4. Alma would fire back with a 10-2 run of their own, forcing Hope to call a timeout. Hope would maintain this lead behind efficient shooting and strong interior play, heading into halftime up 43-28. Throughout the rest of the game, the Scots and the Dutchmen would trade baskets, resulting in a final score of 77-54.

Senior, Aidan Judsen led the Scots offensively. Judsen finished with 11 points while shooting an efficient 5 of 8 from the field. He also grabbed four rebounds and played a physical game. Raine Rodich also provided a spark of energy to help push the pace off the bench. Rodich tallied 10 points and four rebounds while also shooting an efficient 5 for 8. His ability to attack the rim and drive the ball downhill game the Scots a needed spark. Jeremy Rosario also had an all-around solid performance, posting 7 points and six rebounds while adding a steal. Paul Gadde contributed 6 points and had a steal on the defensive end. Josh Elliot also chipped in with 5 points, connecting from behind the arc once.

Despite their best efforts, the Scots struggled with shooting efficiency, hitting just 35.4% from the field, 20.8% from three-point range, and 37.5% from the free throw line. Hope would capitalize on Alm turnovers and outscored Alma 40-22 in the paint, which created separation on the scoreboard. The Scots will look to bounce back in their next matchup as they begin to wrap up their Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play. With a young core developing every game, Alma remains determined to build on its progress for the final stretch of the season. Alma will prepare to host Adrian College on Wednesday, February 19th. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 PM following the women's game. This game will be partnering with the Angel Wings Fund, which honors Keisha Brown's legacy by providing scholarships, support, and holiday assistance to families impacted by cancer, ensuring that love and compassion uplift those in need.
