ALMA, Mich - The Alma College Men's Basketball team put forth a strong second-half effort, but ultimately fell to Adrian College, 63-58, in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association matchup at
Art Smith Arena on Wednesday night.
Alma and Adrian would trade baskets to start the game. Adrian would open up the game a bit with a 9-0 run extending their lead to 22-12. The Scots would find success inside from
Joss Bradley with key layups. The Scots would close the half strong and maintaining the deficit at 9. Adrian took a 37-28 lead into halftime.
Alma would start the half extremely strong with a 7-0 run to bring the score to 30-28. The Scots showcased resilience, outscoring Adrian by four in the second half.
Logan St. Martin led Alma with 16 points on an efficient 8-for-11 shooting, while
Donovan Collins added 13 points, knocking down three three-pointers.
Jeremy Rosario contributed on the board securing seven rebounds to go along with six points. The Scots would cut the deficit to just a few points multiple times as St. Martin and Collins continued to find ways to score.
Paul Gadde provided a much-needed presence on the glass, bringing in eight rebounds. In the final four minutes, Alma had a 6-0 run bringing the deficit to three but, Adrian would maintain composure down the stretch and hit key free throws to secure the victory.
The Scots struggled from beyond the arc, shooting just 21.7% (5-for-23) from three-point range, while Adrian fared even worse at 11.5% (3-for-26). Free-throw shooting also played a role, as Alma made just 56.3% (9-for-16) of their attempts to Adrian's 72.7% (8-for-11).
Alma will look to close the season strong as they travel to Olivet College on Saturday, February 22nd. Tipoff is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
