Box Score Bloomington, Ill. - The Alma College men's basketball team dropped its second game to start the season on Saturday (Nov. 16), suffering a 95-76 setback to Illinois Wesleyan.
Five players scored in double figures for the Scots: Cole Kleiver (Williamston, Mich. / Williamston) led the way with 16 points, Kyle Woodruff (Grand Blanc, Mich. / Holly) put up 15, Brandon Rake (Whitehall, Mich. / Whitehall) and Zach Sinke (Grand Haven, Mich. / Grand Haven) each had 14 and Steven Harvey (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Forest Hills Eastern) had 11. Rake went 6-of-9 from the field and hauled in eight rebounds while Sinke made a game-high four three-pointers while also grabbing four rebounds.
The Titans led from start to finish and took a 22 point lead – its biggest of the game – early in the second half. Kleiver was fouled on the next play and he made two free throws. That was the start of a 29-15 run that lasted over eight minutes and got Alma to within eight with five minutes left.
The Scots fell cold in crunch time, however, going 2-for-8 in the last five minutes while IWU went 6-for-8 with three 3s.
Alma plays an exhibition at Western Michigan University on Tuesday (Nov. 19), then will travel to Oberlin College (OH) on Saturday (Nov. 23) for a 3:00 p.m. game.
