Box Score Kalamazoo, Mich. - The Alma College men's lacrosse team overcame a six-goal first quarter deficit on Saturday night (April 7) at Kalamazoo College, outscoring the Hornets 10-2 in the final 45 minutes to secure a 10-8 road victory at Mackenzie Field.
Alma (4-8 overall, 1-1 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association) was led by sophomore Connor Alley (Powell, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne), who tied a career-high with four goals and added a career-high three assists for a career-best seven points. Senior Daniel Buchy (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro) also added a pair of markers while four other players found the net as the Scots outshot Kalamazoo by a 37-24 margin.
Junior Cameron Stelljes (Okemos, Mich./Okemos) stopped six shots in net as the Alma defense clamped down on the Hornets in the final three quarters.
Kalamazoo (0-6, 0-1 MIAA) has three players score two goals, while Tim Grobosky made 11 saves in goal.
How It Happened
- Kalamazoo opened the game with six unanswered goals - including three in the first five minutes - to take a 6-0 lead after the first quarter.
- Alma responded with all three goals of the second quarter, including two man-up conversions. Connor Alley got Alma on the board less than five minutes into the frame with a man-up, then Jared Nycz scored just over a minute later to cut the deficit to 6-2. Daniel Buchy added a man-up marker with just over three minutes to play in the half to send the Scots into the break trailing, 6-3.
- Alma continued to climb back in the third quarter scoring six times to take the lead. Trevor Bailey scored to open the half, while Austen Irrer found the next just to make the score 6-5. The Hornets stopped the surge 12 seconds after Irrer's goal to regain a two-goal advantage, leading 7-5 with 10:08 remaining in the frame. Alley got Alma back within one goal with 7:54 to play, scoring his second man-up goal of the game, before Chase Hunyadi tied the game just over a minute later, making the score 7-7 with 6:38 left. Alley then gave Alma its first lead with 5:07 on the clock, scoring his third of the game to make the score 8-7. The Scots went up by two goals with two seconds left in the stanza when Alley scored again on a fast break to take a 9-7 lead.
- In the fourth quarter, Buchy scored again with 9:17 to play to give Alma a 10-7 advantage. Kalamazoo cut the lead to a pair of goals with a man-up marker with 7:56 to play, but could not get any closer.

- Connor Alley extended his point streak to six games with his four-goal, three-assist performance. The outing was his second hat trick of the season and tied a career-high for goals. Alley also established career-highs for assists (3) and points (7).
- Alley tied the school record with two man-up goals, becoming the ninth player in program history to accomplish the feat.
