Alma, Mich. - The Alma College men's lacrosse team closed out the regular season on Saturday (April 29) afternoon at Bahlke Field, topping visiting Adrian College by a 20-5 margin.

The Scots (11-5 overall, 5-2 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association) finished in a tie for second place in the final league standings and will advance to the MIAA Tournament for the third straight season. Alma is seeded third and will travel to No. 2 Hope College on Thursday, May 4, for a 7:00 p.m. contest at VanAndel Stadium. Albion College and Olivet College will meet in the other semifinal in Albion, Mich.

Freshman Chase Hunyadi (Pepper Pike, Ohio/University School) and sophomore Jake Ellens (Cadillac, Mich./Cadillac) each scored five goals to pace Alma, which outshot the Bulldogs, 59-23, while netting 20 or more goals for the second straight game.

"Our attack continues to produce big numbers, but I'm pleased to see Austen Irrer and Jake Ellens having huge days," Head Coach Michael Kinney said. I couldn't be more happy for our great senior class to win their final game at Bahkle Field."

Junior Daniel Buchy (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro) notched his sixth hat trick of the season with three markers while junior Austen Irrer (Midland, Mich./Midland), senior Mitch Adams (Novi, Mich./Novi), and sophomore Jared Nycz (Elma, N.Y./Iriquois) scored two goals each. Irrer also added a game-high three assists.

The Scots won 19 of 29 face-offs, with freshman Tom Needham (Saline, Mich./Saline) taking seven of his nine draws to lead the team.

I was really happy with our face-off play today," Kinney said. "It's something we've been working on, so to go 65 percent is good for us and all four guys contributed."

Sophomore Cam Stelljes (Okemos, Mich./Okemos) made nine saves on 14 shots to backstop Alma, while junior Austin Jordan (Naperville, Ill./Nequa Valley) collected a team-high six ground balls.

The Bulldogs (4-10, 2-5 MIAA) were led by Griffin Davison's four goals.
