Alma, Mich. - The Alma College women's tennis team suffered a 7-2 defeat at the hands of Trine University on Wednesday (April 26) at the Superior Street Tennis Courts.
The Scots (3-13 overall, 0-7 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association) have dropped seven straight, while the Thunder (4-15, 2-6 MIAA) closed out their season with their second straight win.
Trine swept the doubles matches to open the contest, but the Scots pushed two of the three matchups to tiebreakers. The No. 1 team of senior Claudia Barajas (Holland, Mich./West Ottawa) and freshman Caroline Ross (Sandusky, Mich./Sandusky) and the no. 3 squad of senior Chloe Ramsey (Vicksburg, Mich./Vicksburg) and junior Amy Wood (Grand Rapids, Mich./City) both fell by 9-8 margins.
In the singles contests, Alma's two seniors picked up the Scots' two points. Barajas, likely playing in her final match due to a spring term trip, posted a 6-3, 6-2 win over Madison Hatkevich at No. 1 singles, while Ramsey defeated Carlee Richardson by a 6-2, 6-2 margin at No. 4 singles.
The Scots will close out the 2017 season on Saturday, April 29, hosting Saint Mary's College at the Superior Street Tennis Courts. The match is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start.
