Men's lacrosse gets program-best 12th victory

Adrian, Mich. - The Alma College men's lacrosse team set the program record for wins in a season on Saturday (April 30) afternoon, defeating Adrian College, 11-10, in the regular-season finale for both teams. The Scots, who improved to 12-4 overall and 6-1 in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association, finished second in the MIAA and defeated Adrian for the first time in the history of the program. Alma was previously 0-4 against the Bulldogs.

The Scots will now host a MIAA Tournament semifinal on Thursday, May 5, at 7:00 p.m. at Bahlke Field. Alma will welcome Trine University to campus in a rematch of a meeting on April 9, when the Scots defeated the Thunder, 11-3.

Sophomore Daniel Buchy (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro), senior Marshall Argenta (Stafford, N.Y./Notre Dame) and sophomore Austen Irrer (Midland, Mich./Midland) each recorded hat tricks for the Scots, while freshman Jared Nycz (Elma, N.Y./Iriquois) tallied six points on a goal and a team-high five assists.

Alma built up a 5-2 lead after the first quarter, including two goals from Argenta, and then added two more in the second fame to take a 7-2 lead into the half.

In the third quarter. the Scots and Bulldogs traded three goals each, including a pair of man-up goals by Alma, to maintain a five-goal lead entering the final stanza.

In the fourth quarter, Buchy scored 39 seconds in in what would prove to be the game-winning goal, as Adrian rallied for five straight scores, including three goals in a span of 1:02 to pull within one goal with 1:24 remaining in the game. The Scots were able to win the ensuing face-off and hold on for the victory. Sophomore Tanner Diment (Midland, Mich./Midland) went 17-for-20 on face-offs as Alma only lost three draws the entire game.

Sophomore Ben Luzar (Midland, Mich./Midland) tallied a career-high nine ground balls on defense for Alma, while senior goalie Al Lesperance (Farmington, Mich./Farmington) made eight saves on 18 shots faced as Alma was outshot the Bulldogs.
