Box Score

Alma, Mich. - The Alma College men's lacrosse team hosted Hiram College in their home-opener of the 2016 season. The Scots rolled over Hiram 16-2, allowing the Terriers only a single goal in each of the halves. With the win, the Scots are now 5-1 and have the best starting record of the season since the beginning of the program, five years ago.

Hiram got on the board first with a goal from Greg Summers with 8:44 left in the first period but it was the only goal Alma would allow in the first half of play. The Scots then went on an 11-0 tear to head in to the half with a sizeable 11-1 lead.

Sophomore Daniel Buchy (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro) netted all three of his goals in the first half alone and three other Scots chipped in two a piece. Sophomore Austen Irrer (Midland, Mich./Midland) landed the first two goals of the game wihle freshman Jared Nycz (Elma, N.Y./Iroquois) and senior Marshall Argenta (Stafford, N.Y./Notre Dame) netted two in the half as well.

Nycz added two more goals in the third and the Scots gave up just one more goal in the third to head in to the last 15 minutes with the 13-2 advantage. With the lead the Scots were able to get their young players in to the game where they added three more goals.

Senior Al Lesperance (Farmington, Mich./Farmington) was in net for the majority of the game but two other Scots goalies saw action. Lesperance was in net for 47:00 minutes and picked up team high two saves.

Sophomore Austin Jordan (Naperville, Ill./Nequa Valley) also put on a show from the defensive end picking up a team high eight ground balls and forcing a team high four caused turnovers.

Alma walked away with the 16-2 victory to improve their overall record to 5-1 on the year. Hiram College has now moved down to 0-3.

Alma will pick back up with two road games, their first game coming on Wednesday (Mar. 23) against the College of Wooster at 7:00 p.m. Alma will then stay on the road and take on Baldwin-Wallace at 5:00 p.m. on Friday (Mar. 25).

QUOTE

Head Coach Michael Kinney

on the victory...

"The game went about the way we expected it to go and we got all the young guys in the game, which really helps them develop so they are in a  position to contribute later. Now we set our sights on the Wooster, Baldwin Wallace and Southwestern games before conference play. We've got some tough ones coming up, we need to be prepared."
