Box Score

Olivet, Mich. - The Alma College football team suffered its first road defeat of the 2016 season, falling by a 36-30 margin to Olivet College at Cutler Field. The Scots fall to 5-3 overall and 2-2 in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association, while Olivet remained atop the MIAA, improving its record to 7-1 and 4-0 in league play.

Junior Danny Hugan II (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron) caught eight passes for 211 yards and three touchdowns, marking the second time his his career he has tallied over 200 yards receiving. Hugan, who scored on 75-, 65-, and 26-yard passes from junior Dylan Zaborowski (Jackson, Mich./Michigan Center), is the only player in school history to catch for over 200 yards in more than one game in his career. Zaborowski threw for 270 yards, completing 14 of his 29 passes.

Alma led at the half and for the entire third quarter, but 15 points by the Comets to open the final period allowed Olivet to come from behind for the win.

The Scots scored first for the seventh straight game when Zaborowski scored on a five-yard run after Alma blocked the first of two Ryan Anderson punts to take over on the Olivet 24. The Comets responded, however, with three straight scores to go up by a 21-7 margin with eight minutes to play in the first half.

After receiving the ensuing kickoff, Zaborowski and Hugan hooked up for the first time, with Hugan scoring on a 75-yard pass. The Scots stopped the Comets on their next drive before Hugan scored again, this time on a 65-uyard pass to tie the game at 21-21 with 1:24 to play in the half. Alma blocked a punt on Olivet's next drive, giving the Scots possession on the Olivet 3. Three plays later, sophomore Jacob Plisko (Livonia, Mich./Stevenson) gave Alma the lead with a 19-yard field goal just before the half.

After a scoreless third quarter, Olivet took the lead early in the fourth, then scored again with 6:17 remaining to make the score 36-24. Hugan and Zaborowski connected again to pull the Scots within six, scoring on a 26-yard pass, but a failed onside kick attempt allowed the Comets to run out the clock.

Olivet finished the game with 451 yards of total offense, while the Scots posted 373 yards. Defensively, junior Colton Tyson (Vassar, Mich./Vassar) made a career-high 17 tackles, while senior Troy Gahm (Gaylord, Mich./Gaylord) made 10 stops, including four tackles for loss and two sacks.
