Alma Men's Lacrosse tournament run ends with a 14-6 loss at Adrian College in the MIAA Semifinals

Box Score

After participating in one of the most exciting games in the MIAA this season earlier in the year, the Alma College Men's Lacrosse team faced off with Adrian College once again on Wednesday, this time in the MIAA Semifinals at Docking Stadium.  The third-seeded Scots would come to play in their first-ever tournament appearance, but the two-time defending MIAA Champion Bulldogs would prove to much at home as the Scots fell 14-6 on the road.

With the loss, Alma finishes a historic 2015 season with an 11-6 overall record and a 4-2 mark in conference play.

Following the victory, Adrian advances to take on top-seeded Albion College for the MIAA Championship on Saturday, May 2, at 4:00 p.m.

Despite the Scots keeping the ball in their offensive zone for most of the first quarter, the Bulldogs used speed and fast break attacks to take the 4-0 lead with 2:02 remaining.

At 1:42, Fr. A/MF Daniel Buchy (Springboro, OH/Springboro) would connect with Fr. A/MF Quentin Ellis (Vernon, CT/Rockville) for his 13th goal of the season to bring the score to 4-1 after the first 15 minutes of action.

Following an Adrian goal to start the second quarter, Buchy would find the back of the net for his second point of the first half off an assist by Fr. D Ben Luzar (Midland/Midland), cutting the deficit to 5-2 with just over 13 minutes remaining before halftime.

The home team would then take control, scoring four-straight goals to end the half and extend the advantage to 9-2.

The Scots started the second half by capitalizing on penalty opportunities, as Irrer and Jr. MF/A Marshall Argenta (Stafford, NY/Notre Dame) both would score man-up goals to bring Alma within five, 9-4, at 8:14.

After another Adrian goal, Buchy would collect his second netter of the contest, this time off an assist by Sr. MF Tyler Bennett (New Lothrop/New Lothrop), to make the score 10-5 heading in to the final quarter of play.

Almost mirroring the meeting between these two teams on March 31, the Scots would find themselves down heading in to the final quarter. In the meeting at Bahlke Field, Alma ended the game by scoring five-unanswered goals in a match that Adrian would hold on to win 10-9.

Down 10-5 at Docking Stadium, the Scots hoped to emulate that great quarter in March on Wednesday.

Adrian was ready for the onslaught this time however, as the Bulldogs would score four-straight goals to extend the advantage to 14-5 with just under one minutes to play.

Irrer would record one more goal to end the game, giving the home team the 14-6 victory and a ticket to the championship game against top-seeded Albion College on Saturday.

A recent All-MIAA First Team selection, Irrer collected two goals for the Scots, while Buchy chipped in with two goals and an assist. All-MIAA Second Team member Jr. D Sam Korbel (Schaumburg, IL/Schaumburg) scooped up a game-high 11 groundballs and caused a team-best five turnovers.

In net, Jr. GK Al Lesperance (Farmington/Farmington) got the loss, ending the year with a 9-6 overall record.
