Scots Men's Lacrosse win fourth straight, dominate Calvin on the road 14-2

Box Score

Coming off an 8-5 win over Hope College at home on Friday, the Alma College Men's Lacrosse team hit the road on Wednesday to take on Calvin College at Zuidema Field. The Scots were in the driver seat for the entire game, scoring 13-unanswered goals en route to an impressive 14-2 victory on the road.

"Tough conditions today with cold, snow and a soft grass field," said Alma Head Coach Michael Kinney. The guys came ready to play and are ready for a showdown onSaturday with Albion."

"The guys have had this one circled all year and we are going to use it as a measuring stick for our growth this year.  They are so talented, we just want to compete at our best."

With the win, Alma now sits at 11-4 on the year and 4-1 in the MIAA. The Scots are currently tied for second with Adrian College with one game remaining. The Bulldogs hold the tiebreaker over Alma after earning a hard-fought 10-9 victory at Bahlke Field earlier in the year.

Jr. MF/A David Foster (Ann Arbor/Pioneer) got the Scots on the board first with an unassisted goal at 14:05, before Jr. MF/A Marshall Argenta (Stafford, NY/Notre Dame) found the back of the net to make the score 2-0 with just under 11 minutes to play in the first quarter.

Sr. MF Tyler Bennett (New Lothrop/New Lothrop) ended the first with an unassisted goal to put Alma up 3-0 after one quarter of play.

At 11:19, Argenta would collect his second goal off an assist by Fr. A/MF Quentin Ellis (Vernon, CT/Rockville), before Jr. MF/A Kyle Schnitzer (Aurora, CO/Smoky Hill) snuck one past the goalie at 7:17 to make the score 5-0.

Argenta completed the first-half hat trick with another goal at 2:10, then with just 34 seconds left on the clock, So. MF/A TJ Miller (Brighton/Brighton) would put the Scots up 7-0 with a goal off an assist by Fr. D Austen Irrer (Midland/Midland).

Schnitzer started the third by scoring his second goal of the afternoon, before Ellis would record a netter despite Alma being a man down, to put the Scots up 9-0 at 3:25.

A goal by Fr. D Ben Luzar (Midland/Midland) and another by Ellis would end the third quarter with Alma holding the commanding 11-0 lead.

At 10:39, Schnitzer would find Fr. A Bryce Bohrmann (Grand Rapids/Pennfield) for his fifth goal of the season to put the Scots up 12-0.

Irrer rang the bell once more at 4:14, before Calvin finally got on the board with a goal at 3:24 to bring the score to 13-1.

Schnitzer connected with Bohrmann for the second time of the afternoon to put Alma up 14-1 with just over two minutes remaining.

The Knights would collect one more goal to end the game, giving the Scots the convincing 14-2 victory on the road.

Argenta led all players with three goals, while Schnitzer added two goals and two assists. Luzar scooped six groundballs to go along with one goal and Fr. MF Tanner Diment (Midland/Midland) won 10-of-11 faceoffs.

In goal, Sr. GK Daric Mueller (DeWitt/DeWitt) improved to 2-0 on the year after making nine saves on 11 shots.

The Scots close out the regular season at home on Saturday, April 25, when they welcome Albion College to campus for a game at 1:00 p.m.
