Box Score The Alma Men's Lacrosse team wrapped up non-conference play on Sunday, welcoming the Milwaukee School of Engineering to campus for a game at Bahlke Field. Despite being down 1-0 early, the Scots would come out victorious against the Raiders 7-3 to earn their third-straight win.
With the victory, Alma improves to 7-3 on the year, winning six of its last seven contests. MSOE falls to 2-5 overall with the loss.
"I couldn't be more proud of these guys and so happy for them that they raised the bar of this program today!" said Alma Head Coach Michael Kinney. "We have six very tough conference games that will test how much we've grown and developed since September and show us how much further we can go in the future."
"We have just gotten started and there are many pieces of the puzzle to go, but we can clearly see what the final product could be, and that's so exciting for us."
"Our season starts on Tuesday ... Everything we've done to this point has been for these next six games. Right now, all that matters is our conference opener on Tuesday."
The Raiders would strike first on Sunday, scoring in the first three minutes of the game to take the early 1-0 lead.
Minutes later, Jr. MF Marshall Argenta (Stafford, NY/Notre Dame) would find Fr. A Quentin Ellis (Vernon, CT/Rockville) for a score to knot the game at 1-1 with 10:03 remaining in the first quarter.
At 8:51, Jr. MF Alex Novak (Oxford/Oxford) would ring the bell of an assist by Jr. MF Kyle Schnitzer (Aurora, CO/Smoky Hill) to give the Scots their first lead of the game at 2-1.
Argenta kicked off the second quarter with a goal off a find by Sr. MF Tyler Bennett (New Lothrop/New Lothrop) to extend the Alma advantage to 3-1 with 12:29 left to go before halftime.
Down 3-1, the visitors would battle back and score two-answered goals to knot the score at 3-3 with 4:27 remaining in the quarter.
With 1:19 left in the second quarter, Ellis would collect his second goal of the afternoon unassisted, before finding Fr. MF Quinn Summerfield (Lowell/Lowell) with just three seconds on the clock to give Alma the 5-3 lead heading in to halftime.
In the third, So. MF TJ Miller (Brighton/Brighton) found the back of the net unassisted to stretch the lead to 6-3, before Bennett would send one in off a Jr. MF David Foster (Ann Arbor/Pioneer) assist to end the third period with Alma up 7-3.
Neither team would put any points on the board in the fourth and the Scots left Bahlke Field with the 7-3 victory.
Ellis led the Scots with two goals on four shots. Fr. MF Tanner Diment (Midland/Midland) scooped up a game-high nine groundballs and won 12-of-14 faceoffs.
Alma won the groundball battle 46-27 and went a perfect 11-for-11 in clear attempts.
In goal, Jr. GK Al Lesperance (Farmington/Farmington) improves to 6-3 on the year after making 12 saves on 15 shots.
The Scots return to Bahlke Field on Tuesday, March 31, to kick off conference play against Adrian College at 7:00 p.m.
