Box Score The Alma College Men's Lacrosse team hit on the road on Wednesday, traveling to Ohio to faceoff with Hiram College (OH). Despite being down 2-1 after the first quarter, the Scots would rebound to defeat the Terriers 10-7 to earn their fifth win of the season.
With the victory, Alma improves to 5-3 on the year, while Hiram drops to 2-5 following the loss.
"The long bus ride down to Hiram proved to be a little bit difficult to recover from for us," said Alma Head Coach Michael Kinney. "We played a bit lethargic and didn't transition well, but at the end of the day, we got a win and that's all that matters. Probably a little too far to go for a midweek game. Penalties late in the game hurt us as we blew a 10-4 lead. We are glad to be home on Friday and Sunday before we start conference play."
Both teams would battle to stalemate in the first ten minutes of action, before Hiram would get on the board at 5:05 to take the 1-0 in the first quarter.
Less than two minutes later, Jr. MF David Foster (Ann Arbor/Pioneer) would send a rocket in to the back of the net to tie the game at 1-1 with just over three minutes remaining in the first.
The Terriers would put one more on the board in the first quarter, capitalizing on a man-up opportunity, to take the 2-1 lead after the first 15 minutes.
The game would change in the second quarter with the Scots securely placing themselves in the driver seat.
Less than a minute in to the quarter, So. MF Josh Sejat (Grand Rapids/Northview) would score to knot the game at 2-2 with just over 14 minutes to play before halftime.
The home team would regain the lead just 30 seconds later before the Scots would put up three-straight scores to retake the lead at 6-3 with 7:41 left to go.
The Terriers would cut the deficit to 6-4 with a score but Jr. MF Marshall Argenta (Stafford, NY/Notre Dame) would ring the bell two-straight times to extend the Alma advantage to 8-4 heading in to halftime.
The Scots were the only team to score in the third, as goals by Sr. MF Tyler Bennett (New Lothrop/New Lothrop) and another by Sejat would stretch the lead to 10-4 heading in to the final quarter of action.
Hiram would score three-unanswered goals in the fourth but it would not be enough, as Alma held on to earn the 10-7 victory on the road.
Argenta had a huge game for the Scots on Wednesday, recording four goals on just eight shots. Sejat added two scores, while So. MF TJ Miller (Brighton/Brighton) chipped in one goal, three assists and five groundballs.
In goal, Jr. GK Al Lesperance (Farmington/Farmington) improves to 5-3 on the year after allowing seven goals on 14 shots in 60 minutes played.
Alma kicks off a three-game homestand on Friday, March 27, welcoming Franciscan University (OH) to Bahlke Field for a game scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m.
