Men's Lacrosse finishes Spring Break trip with 10-3 loss at Berry College (GA)

Box Score

The first week of competition for the Alma College Men's Lacrosse team came to an end on Friday afternoon when the Scots took on host Berry College (GA) in a non-league match. The Vikings jumped out to a quick lead and never let up en route to a 10-3 victory.

With the defeat, Alma ends Spring Break 2015 with a record of 1-2, while Berry is now 2-0 on the young season.

"We are heading home to Alma after today's loss," said Scots Head Coach Michael Kinney. "We have much work to do now in order to be where we want to be later in the season. But, there was group of men that I would rather have spent spring break with and we look forward to continuing the season."

Berry opened the first quarter with three consecutive goals before So. A/M TJ Miller (Brighton/Brighton) hit the back of the net for the Scots, assisted by Fr. D Austin Irrer (Midland/Midland), with 3:41 left in the frame.

In the second quarter, Berry scored two goals to take a 5-1 advantage. Irrer then scored unassisted at 2:13 to cut Alma's deficit to three heading into the halftime break.

The Vikings made it 6-2 at the 6:17 mark of the third stanza and then Jr. M/A Marshall Argenta (Stafford, NY/Notre Dame) tallied for the Scots on an assist by Irrer. The frame would end with Berry having the 6-3 lead, but with Alma very much in the game.

However, the talented hometown Vikings found another defensive gear and clamped down on any Alma comeback ideas. They made it a 7-3 contest at 6:24 and then scored the game's final three tallies in the last 2:52 to earn the final 10-3 margin of victoy.

In net for Alma, Jr.GK Al Lesperance (Farmington/Farmington) played 58:21 and made 10 saves in the loss, while Sr. GK Daric Mueller (DeWitt/DeWitt) saw action in the last 1:39 and made one save.

Argenta and Irrer paced the Scots with three shots on goal a piece, while Miller and Fr. M Tanner Diment (Midland/Midland) each had two.

The Scots are scheduled to play at Defiance College on Wednesday, March 4 at 4:00 p.m.
