Box Score It was a historic night at Bahlke Field on Saturday when the Alma College Men's Lacrosse team faced off against Trine University in the first-ever night game in program history. Under the lights, the Scots dropped an 8-5 decision to the Thunder at home.
Alma drops to 5-7 overall and 0-2 in the MIAA with the loss, while Trine improves to 2-8 on the year and 2-0 in the league with the victory.
"We failed to play up to our capabilities for the full sixty minutes," said Alma Head Coach Jason Levesque. "We did however battle, and fight, and scrap for much of the game."
"I'm pleased with our effort, however we need to help ourselves by executing more efficiently and more consistently."
The Scots got on the board first on Saturday evening, when So. D Isaiah Colmore (Dundalk, MD/Patapsco) found the back of the net off an assist by So. A Kyle Schnitzer (Aurora, CO/Smoky Hill) at 6:25.
Jr. MF Tyler Bennett (New Lothrop/New Lothrop) sent in a pass from So. A Marshall Argenta (Stafford, NY/Notre Dame) at 3:14 and the Scots held the early 2-0 lead.
With just 29 seconds remaining in the first quarter, the Thunder got on the board with a goal and the scoreboard showed 2-1 heading into the second quarter.
Trine scored four unanswered in the second, taking the 5-2 advantage into the locker rooms.
The Thunder started the second half with a goal, stretching the lead to 6-2 at 14:48.
Schnitzer recorded back-to-back goals and the Scots closed the gap to 6-4 with just over five minutes to play in the quarter.
Trine ended the third with a score to take the 7-4 lead into the final quarter of play.
Schnitzer notched his third goal of the evening at 11:29 in the fourth, to bring Alma within two at 7-5.
The Thunder closed out the game with a score to take the 8-5 victory at Bahlke Field.
Schnitzer led all players with three goals and added an assist. Colmore and Bennett tallied the other two scores for the Scots, while Argenta, Foster and Fr. MF Mitch Adams (Novi/Novi) each added an assist on Saturday.
In goal, So. GK Al Lesperance (Farmington/Farmington) recorded five saves for Alma in the loss, dropping to 3-3 on the year.
Trine led in nearly all statistical categories, including shots (47-14), groundballs (40-29) and faceoffs (11-5). The Scots recorded 10 successful clears compared to just five by the Thunder, and Alma forced 27 turnovers while committing 22.
Alma continues conference play on Wednesday, April 9, when they traval to face Olivet at 7:00 p.m.
