Box Score The Alma College Men's Lacrosse team wrapped up conference play on Wednesday when they traveled to Albion College to take on the Britons at Sparankle-Sprandel Stadium. Facing a 15-0 deficit after the first half, the Scots left Albion with the 22-4 loss.
With the loss, Alma drops to 6-10 on the year and finishes the 2014 season with a 1-5 mark in the MIAA. The Britons improve to 11-3 overall behind a perfect 5-0 mark in the league with the victory.
"As you can tell from the stats, we ran into a very strong team," said Alma Head Coach Jason Levesque. "They came out strong, played fast and executed very well, I have to give them credit.
"I'm proud of the guys efforts and the way they competed, especially in the second half. We do need to correct our own miscues and execute better ourselves, as a number of their goals were them capitalizing on our mistakes. We'll regroup and look to finish strong this weekend at home."
The Britons took hold of the match in the first quarter, scoring seven-unanswered goals to take the early 7-0 lead after one.
Albion continued to roll in second, putting eight more goals on the board to extend the advantage to 15-0 heading into the locker rooms.
Three minutes into the third quarter, Jr. D Alex Novak (South Holland, IL/Marian Catholic) found the back of the net to give Alma its first points of the evening.
The home team would respond by scoring four-straight goals and the scoreboard read 19-1 with just over five minutes to play in the third.
Fr. MF TJ Miller (Brighton/Brighton) collected an unassisted goal at 4:22 to bring the score to 19-2 heading into the final quarter of play.
At 12:30, So. MF Kyle Schnitzer (Aurora, CO/Smoky Hill) recorded his team-best 25th goal of the season to make it 19-3.
Albion would score three more goals before Fr. A Josh Sejat (Grand Rapids/Northview) rang the bell at 5:30 and the score showed 21-4 late in the fourth.
The Britons collected the final goal of the fourth to claim the 22-4 victory at Sparankle-Sprandel Stadium.
Schnitzer, Miller, Novak and Sejat each recorded one goal on Wednesday, while Jr. MF Tyler Bennett (New Lothrop/New Lothrop) scooped up a team-high seven groundballs.
After allowing 22 goals on 42 shots, Jr. GK Daric Mueller (DeWitt/DeWitt) fell to 1-6 on the year.
The home team was dominant on Wednesday, collecting 49 groundballs compared to 26 by Alma. The Scots had 22 turnovers while forcing 12, and won 14 faceoffs to the Briton's 15.
Alma wraps up the 2014 season on Saturday, April 26th, when they welcome Transylvania University to Bahlke field for a match set for 1:00 p.m.
