Alma Men's Lacrosse downed at Hope College 15-5

Box Score

The Alma College men's lacrosse team hit the road Wednesday to take on Hope College at Van Andel Stadium. Despite scoring first, the Scots would fall to the Flying Dutchmen 15-5 on Wednesday evening.

Alma dropped to 5-6 on the year and 0-1 in the MIAA with the loss. With the victory, Hope improved to 4-3 overall and 1-0 in the league.

"Essentially we played a little bit of a Jekyll and Hyde type of game tonight," said Alma Head Coach Jason Levesque. "We showed some bright spots, had some guys step up and we can certainly take some positives away from the game.

"On the flip side, we were lost out there at times and a quality team like Hope will and did make us pay for it. We need to be better this weekend against Trine."

Fr. MF TJ Miller (Brighton/Brighton) scored the first goal of the match at 13:35, to give the Scots the early 1-0 lead on the road.

The home team would answer back with three-straight goals to grab the 3-1 lead at 7:41.

So. MF Marshall Argenta (Stafford, NY/Notre Dame) would find the back of the net off an assist by Fr. MF Josh Sejat (Grand Rapids/Northview), to bring Alma within one at 3-2.

Hope closed out the first quarter with another goal, and the score showed 4-2 heading into the second. The Flying Dutchmen took control of the match in that second quarter, scoring six unanswered to take the 10-2 lead into the locker rooms.

Following a Hope goal to start the third, Jr. D Alex Novak (South Holland, IL/Marian Catholic) notched an unassisted goal at 12:47 to make the score 11-3. Argenta would strike again at 8:56 off a helper by So. MF David Foster (Ann Arbor/Pioneer) to cut the deficit to seven, 11-4.

The home team would score the final two goals of the third quarter, and Hope entered the final frame up 13-4. Then, the Flying Dutchmen started the fourth with two goals to extend their advantage to 15-4, with just under two minutes remaining.

Sejat ended the match with a goal, and the Scots took the 15-5 loss on the road.

Argenta led the Scots with two goals, and Sejat finished the evening with one goal and an assist.

In goal, Jr. GK Daric Mueller (DeWitt/DeWitt) made 12 saves on 27 shots.

Despite the loss, the Scots won the turnover battle on Wednesday, forcing 24 while committing 22. Hope held the edge in faceoff wins (18-6) and groundballs (41-25).

Alma returns to Bahlke Field on Saturday, April 5th, to take on Trine University in a conference match at 7:00 p.m.
