Men's LAX beats visiting Wilmington College (OH) on Thursday 12-4 at Bahlke Field

Box Score

Thursday afternoon found the Alma College men's lacrosse team playing their first home game of the 2014 season as Wilmington College (OH) came to town.

The Scots jumped out early and led 6-1 at halftime. The good fortune continued in the second half as well, and Alma cruised to a 12-4 victory.

With the win, Alma's second in a row, the Scots improved to 2-3 on the 2014 season, while the Fightin' Quakers leave the city with a mark of 0-2.

"It was great to be at home and in front of friends and family," said Alma Head Coach Jason Levesque. "Overall we played and competed well, but we were inconsistent. I am pleased with our effort today, but our execution needs to be improved if we expect to get the same result this Saturday."

Alma got off to a good start as So. M/A Marshall Argenta (Stafford, NY/Notre Dame) scored 1:07 into the game on an assists by So. M/A Kyle Schnitzer (Aurora, CO/Smoky Hill). The Scots made it 2-0 when Jr. D Alex Novak (South Holland, IL/Marian Catholic) tallied at the 8:46 mark.

Wilmington cut their deficit to 2-1 with 4:19 left in the first quarter, but Schnitzer scored the first of his three first-half goals at 2:50, giving the home team a 3-1 advantage after the first frame.

Alma scored three more goals in the second quarter to take control of the contest at halftime. Schnitzer completed the natural hat trick with goals at 9:46 and 7:28 and So. D Isaiah Colmore (Dundalk, MD/Patapsco) made it a 6-1 lead with 1:41 remaining in the frame.

In the second half, Alma scored the first three goals to take a 9-1 advantage as Novak and Argenta scored one each and Fr. M/A TJ Miller (Brighton/Brighton) added the other for the Scots. Wilmington showed some fight however, as they scored three unanswered to cut the lead to 9-4 heading into the fourth quarter.

Argenta made it a 10-4 game at the 10:00 mark of the final frame on another assist by Schnitzer as the two teams then settled into a period of a defensive mode. Novak put the game away though as he added tallies at 2:47 and then again at 1:33 to give Alma the final margin of victory of 12-4.

Novak finished the afternoon with four goals, while Schnitzer had three tallies and two assists in the victory and Argenta had three goals. Jr. M Tyler Bennett (New Lothrop/New Lothrop) paced the Scots with eight ground balls, while So. D Sam Korbel (Schaumburg, IL/Schaumburg) added seven.

In addition, Jr. GK Daric Mueller (DeWitt/DeWitt) notched four saves in earning the win in net.
