Box Score The Alma College men's lacrosse team finished a quick two game, three day trip as they took on Bethany College (WV) on Sunday afternoon. The Scots were up to the task as they defeated the host Bison by a score of 8-5.
With the impressive victory, Alma is now 4-4 on the season while Bethany fell to 3-4 in the 2014 campaign.
"Playing our second game in three days on the road, our team showed some great character and resolve today," said Alma Head Coach Jason Levesque. "It's always tough to win on the road, and to win two in the same weekend is a nice step forward in our development."
The Scots came out strong and opened the first period by scoring three goals, including one apiece from Jr. D Alex Novak (South Holland, IL/Marian Catholic), So. M/A Marshall Argenta (Stafford, NY/Notre Dame) and Jr. M Tyler Bennett (New Lothrop/New Lothrop).
The two teams then played a rare scoreless quarter in the second and the the Scots were able to take a 3-0 lead heading into the halftime intermission.
After the Scots opened the third frame with a goal by Fr. M/A TJ Miller (Brighton/Brighton) to increase their lead out to 4-0, the game started to get away from them. Bethany would score four of the game's next five goals to make it 5-4. The lone Alma bright spot in that period was an unassisted tally by So. M/A Kyle Schnitzer (Aurora, CO/Smoky Hill) at the 9:53 mark of the third.
Up by one early in the fourth quarter, Alma responded by scoring two goals - by Novak and So. D Isiah Colmore (Dundalk, MD/Patapsco) - in about 30 seconds to push the lead back out to 7-4 with 11:02 remaining in the contest.
Each team would score one more goal, Argenta for the Scots, but the road team was able to hold off the Bison to earn the 8-5 win.
"We still need to work on playing a more consistent sixty minute game," concluded Levesque. "We gave up a couple looks we shouldn't have but overall we're extremely proud of the boys."
Alma next plays on March 29 when they hit the road to take on Concordia (WI) in a non-league match. Start time is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
