The Alma College Men's Lacrosse team traveled to West Virginia on Friday afternoon to take on Franciscan University (PA) on the campus of Bethany College. Thanks to a seven-goal second quarter, the Scots defeated the Barons 15-8 to claim their third win of the season. 

With the victory, Alma improves to 3-4 overall while Franciscan drops to 1-5 on the year.

"I'm pleased with the result today, however we need to play a much more consistent game," said Alma Head Coach Jason Levesque.

"We played well at times, and at others we didn't ... Our schedule only gets tougher from here; we all need to be better."

So. MF David Foster (Ann Arbor/Pioneer) got the Scots on the board first at 13:51 with an unassisted goal to give Alma the early 1-0 advantage.

The Barons responded at 2:48 and the first quarter ended with the score knotted up at 1-1.

Alma opened up the game in the second quarter, scoring six-unanswered goals to take the 7-1 lead at 7:03. Franciscan tallied a goal at 3:21 to make it 7-2 before Jr. D Alex Novak (South Holland, IL/Marian Catholic) found the back of the net with just seven seconds remaining to give the Scots the 8-2 lead heading into the locker room. 

Jr. MF Tyler Bennett (New Lothrop/New Lothrop) started off the second half with a man-up goal to stretch the Alma advantage to 9-2 at 12:36. Following a Baron goal at 6:49,  Fr. MF Josh Sejat (Grand Rapids/Northview) and Fr. MF TJ Miller (Brighton/Brighton) both collected unassisted goals to put the Scots up 11-3 with just under five minutes to play in the third.

Alma began the final quarter of play up 11-5 before Foster notched two-straight unassisted goals to put the Scots up 13-6 at 4:58. So. MF Marshall Argenta (Stafford, NY/Notre Dame) ended the match with two goals to give the Scots the 15-8 victory on the road.

Foster led all scorers with four goals while Argenta added three goals and two assists for Alma. 

Ryan Zbikowski and Luke Gilman both had three goals for the Barons in the loss.

In goal, So. GK Al Lesperance (Farmington/Farmington) improved to 3-4 on the year after collecting five saves on 13 shots.

The Scots forced 26 turnovers on Friday while committing 21. Alma out shot the Barons 53-23 and won 22 faceoffs compared to just three by Franciscan.

Alma will stay in West Virginia over the weekend and will take on Bethany College (WV) on Sunday, March 16, at 1 p.m.
