Scots Men's Lacrosse outlasted at Bridgewater 6-5 on Tuesday

Box Score

The Alma College Men's Lacrosse team dropped their second match in a row on Tuesday, falling to Bridgewater (VA) 5-4 on the road.

With the loss, the Scots fall to 0-2 on the year, while the Eagles improve to 1-0 with the victory.

"I'm pleased with our compete level," said Alma Head Coach Jason Levesque. "However, we let another game slip away from us and we need to capitalize on more of our opportunities when they're presented to us.

"For our young team, these are great situations to be in, winnable games where each possession can sway the outcome. The loss still stings, but there is a great deal we can learn from these experiences."

Scots Fr. MF TJ Miller (Brighton/Brighton) got Alma on the board first with a goal at 8:26 off an assist by So. MF Kyle Schnitzer (Aurora, CO/Smoky Hill). The Scots held onto the 1-0 advantage for nearly the entire first quarter before Bridgewater found the back of the net as time expired to knot the game up at 1-1.

A goal at 2:51 by the Eagles would be the only scoring done in the second quarter and the home team took the 2-1 advantage into the halftime break.

With less than a minute gone by in the third, Bridgewater collected another goal to extend the lead to 3-1 before Jr. D Alex Novak (South Holland, IL/Marian Catholic) answered less than two minutes later to bring Alma within one, at 3-2.

Schnitzer tallied another assist, this time to So. MF David Foster (Ann Arbor/Pioneer), to tie the match at 3-3 with just under 11 minutes to go in the third quarter. The Eagles would strike again at 4:06 of the frame to take the one-point lead, 4-3, heading into the final stanza.

Bridgewater would score first in the fourth to extend the advantage to 5-3 before Miller and Schnitzer would link up again at 11:19 to bring the Scots within one at 5-4. The Eagles then scored at the 8:39 mark to stretch the lead to two at 6-4.

Novak recorded his second goal of the afternoon off an assist by So. MF Marshal Argenta (Stafford, NY/Notre Dame) at 4:38 of the quarter, but Alma would be unable to score again and suffered the 6-5 loss on the road.

Novak and Miller both had two goals a piece for the Scots, while Schnitzer paced the attack with a game-high three assists.

Derrik Daniels led the Eagles with a game-high four goals, while adding one helper.

Alma committed 24 turnovers while forcing 30 but Bridgewater held the edge in shots (30-25) and face-off wins (10-4)

The Scots take on Randolph on Thursday, February 27, at 4:00 p.m.
