Box Score

On Sunday night, Alma College played their inaugural Men's Lacrosse match as the Scots traveled to Centre College (Ky.). Even though the visitors lost by a score of 22-2, it was a historical evening and the beginning of a new athletic program for the school.

"I couldn't be more pleased and proud of the effort put forth by our team this evening," said Alma Head Coach Jason Levesque. "Regardless of the final outcome and score throughout the course of the game, our guys played extremely hard to the final whistle on every play. We've got much to improve on, however everything begins and ends with hard work and we had that tonight. Obviously not the result we're looking for, but I'm very proud of how our team battled from start to finish."

As is going to be the case in almost every contest this season, the Scots were the inexperienced group on the field and it showed from the beginning. The host Colonels, playing in their first game of the season, came out a bit slow as well, but eventually scored seven goals in the first period for a 7-0 advantage.

Matthew Gillespie scored the first-ever goal for the Alma Men's Lacrosse program

The score would become 12-0 before the first-ever goal for the program was scored by Fr. A Matthew Gillespie (Chelsea, Mich./Chelsea), assisted by Fr. M Cole Mulder (Holland, Mich./West Ottawa) with 1:44 left in the first half.

The Colonels increased their lead to 16-1 before Alma's Fr. M Timothy DeFilippo (Chicago, IL/Taft) scored for Alma with 4:09 remaining in the third period. However, that is the last goal the visitors would notch on this evening and the host Colonels added six more for the final 22-2 margin of victory.

On Tuesday, the Scots will continue their southern trip when they travel to Mt. Berry, Georgia to take on Berry College.
