The Alma College Women's Basketball team continued its 2008-09 campaign on Wednesday night, when they traveled to play Concordia College of Ann Arbor (MI). The Scots dropped a 56-46 decision to fall to 0-5 on the season while Concordia improved to 3-6.
The Scots played hard and hung in the game to the end but just could not generate enough offense to get a victory. After a 24-24 first half dead-lock, Concordia was able to outscore Alma by a 32-22 margin in the final frame and come away with the home victory.
Neither team shot particularily well as defense ruled in the contest. Alma finished the game with a shooting percentage of 33% while Concordia was not much better at 35%. As was the whole game, the rebound difference was slight as the Scots came out on the wrong end of a 39-35 final number.
Heather Keenan paced the Scots with 14 points, four rebounds and two assists while Megan Hoblet contributed seven points and five rebounds in the loss. Sydney Beckwith had six points and tied a team-high with six rebounds as Kathryn Bigelow also notched six rebounds and a team-best three assists. Additionally, Stephanie Bradshaw dumped in six points and added two assists for the Scots.
Alma opens up its MIAA season this Saturday afternoon when they travel to Hope College to take on the perennial favorites, in a game that begins at 3:00 p.m. The Scots will then next play on December 13, when they have another MIAA contest at Kalamazoo College, again with a 3:00 p.m. start time.
