ALMA WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TEAM DROPS 47-38 DECISION TO WISCONSIN-OSHKOSH ON MONDAY

The Alma Women's basketball team hit the road on Monday afternoon to participate in the Wittenberg University Charles B. Zimmerman Holiday Classic in Springfield, OH and dropped a 47-38 decision to the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. The Scots will play Mount St. Joseph (OH) in the tournament's consolation game on Tuesday afternoon at Pam Evans Smith Arena. The game will begin at 12:30 p.m.
Despite never leading in the contest, Alma was able to keep it close, but was plagued by a tough shooting afternoon from the field. After F Sydney Beckwith (So. – Weidman, MI) hit a jumper for the Scots to cut the Titans lead to 8-7 six minutes into the contest, UW-Oshkosh scored the next seven points.  It was an uphill battle the rest of the way for Alma.

The first half ended with the Titans leading the Scots by a score of 25-15, as Alma shot
29% from the field and was one of six from outside the three-point line. UW-Oshkosh was hounded by the tough Alma defense all half and finished with a 32% shooting percentage, including two of nine from outside the arc.

The Scots fought hard in the second half and were able to cut the deficit to 30-27 on a jumper by F Kathryn Bigelow (Jr. – Alma, MI) at the halfway point of the second frame. However, that is the closest Alma would get as the Titans scored the next six points and were able to hold off the Scots for the victory.

Beckwith paced Alma with nine points, while F/C Meagan Hoblet (Jr. – Cadillac, MI) added eight points and a team-high seven rebounds. Bigelow chipped in with seven points, six rebounds and a team-best four assists on the afternoon. G Heather Keenan (Sr. – Charlotte, MI) and G Stephanie Bradshaw (Jr. – Livonia, MI) each contributed five rebounds for the Scots.

After Tuesday's game against Mount St. Joseph, Alma will continue MIAA league play on Saturday, January 3, when they host Calvin College at Cappaert Gymnasium, beginning at 3:00 p.m.
