Takashi Gould named Alma College Director of Cross Country and Track and Field

ALMA, Mich. – Alma College Athletics is proud to announce the hiring of Takashi Gould as the next head coach of the Scots men's and women's cross country and track and field programs, as announced by Director of Athletics Dr. Phil Miller.

"We are excited to welcome Takashi to Alma College," said Director of Athletics Dr. Phil Miller. "Takashi has demonstrated success developing student athletes and a passion for mentoring young people throughout his career. His recruiting experience, ability to lead and develop athletes, and commitment to building a positive and competitive culture make him an outstanding fit to lead our cross country and track and field programs at an exciting time for Alma College athletics."

Gould arrives at Alma after serving as the Assistant Coach for Men's and Women's Cross Country and Track and Field at Trinity College, where he has been a member of the coaching staff since August 2022. During his time at Trinity, he designed and implemented training programs for the program's distance and middle-distance athletes throughout the cross country, indoor track and field, and outdoor track and field seasons while also providing year-round training guidance. His coaching helped produce three NCAA Division III Cross Country Individual National Qualifiers, two NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field National Qualifiers, and one NCAA Division III Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field All American. Gould also coordinated and played a leading role in the program's recruiting efforts.

"I'd like to thank and express gratitude to Dr. Miller, President Odenwald, and the entire Search Committee for entrusting me with the opportunity to lead the Cross Country and Track & Field programs at Alma College. Alma's rich history, the proud alumni network, and the leadership's commitment to athletics stood out from the very beginning stages of this process. I'm so grateful for this opportunity for our family to come back home to Michigan. I'm excited to get to know the staff, the team, and the community of Alma. Go Scots!"

Prior to joining Trinity, Gould served as Director of Operations for the University of Massachusetts Amherst men's and women's track and field programs, where he supported the day-to-day operations of a Division I program.

Gould also brings extensive high school coaching experience in cross country and track and field, leading programs at DeWitt High School, Skyline High School, and Dexter High School. In addition, he served as the head coach for Team Michigan Cross Country through the Michigan Interscholastic Track Coaches Association from 2012 to 2018, working with many of the state's top high school runners.

In addition to his coaching experience, Gould currently serves as the MidEast Region Men's Representative on the USTFCCCA Cross Country Rankings Committee, a role he has held since December 2025.

A Michigan native, Gould graduated from Eastern Michigan University, where he competed in cross country and track and field. He will begin his duties on August 17.
