OTTAWA LAKE, Mich. – Starting play for the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Spring Finale, the Alma College women's golf team took to The Legacy Golf Course on Friday, April 24th. The Scots sit tied for seventh for the tournament after day one with a team score of 341 (+53), tied with Kalamazoo College.
Sophomore Sarah Ream was the Scots low score of the day, tying for third place overall with a three-over 75. Ream carded four birdies on her opening round, sitting six shots behind the clubhouse leader. Addison Wressell was Alma's next finisher with a score of 85 (+13), tying for 32nd. Wressell also recorded a birdie in her round. Leea Gorman was the Scots third finisher of the day with an 89 (+17), tying for 42nd overall. Gorman added another birdie for the Scots total. Just one shot behind was teammate Damien Gagnon, finishing in 44th through round one, with a score of 90 (+18). A couple shots behind was Katelyn Jacot, finishing her opening round with a 92 (+20), tying for 45th position in day one. McKenzie McManus closed out the Scots scoring with a 96 (+24), placing 51st in the field after the first day.
Rylee Smith of Trine University leads the tournament at the conclusion of round one as the only player under par with a three-under 69. Amanda Malling moved through the day at even par for second place, three shots ahead of Ream and Julia Lizak. Saint Mary's College holds the top spot after day one with a score of 307 (+19). Trine holds down second place with a score of 310 (+22), three shots behind Saint Mary's and eight shots ahead of Hope College in third with a 318 (+30).
Round two will begin at 9:00 AM tomorrow ahead of the conclusion of the championship and spring season.
