No. 1 STUNT Dethrones Oklahoma State, Wins Fifth National Championship

Alma won 31-29 on Sunday afternoon

Bethany, OK – The nationally ranked Alma College STUNT team was in action on Sunday, taking on defending national champions Oklahoma State University in the College STUNT Club Division national championship game. In a thriller that came down to the final routine, Alma was victorious by a final of 31-29, winning their fifth national championship in the program's history.

The margins for error were razor thin throughout the entire game, with just one point being earned outright prior to the fourth quarter starting. All others were earned within two deductions. Alma won routine five to open the game, only for Oklahoma State to win routines eight and three, taking a lead. Alma thought they had things tied after winning routine four, but a Cowgirl challenge saw the decision reversed to a tie, and Alma trailed 5-4 after one quarter. The Scots won routines four and five to open the second quarter, taking the lead briefly only for OKST to win routine one and tie things up at 9-9. However, it was Alma who won routine seven to close the half, and lead 11-10 at the break.

Out of halftime, the momentum continued to snowball for Alma. The Scots won routine seven, before the teams tied routine five. Alma won three and six to close the quarter up 18-14, the largest lead that either team had seen in either the semifinal or national title games to that point. The first call of the fourth quarter was routine four, which Oklahoma State won 4-3 to narrow Alma's lead to three points. The teams tied routine five 4-4, before the Cowgirls outscored the Scots 4-2 on routine eight, thinning the Alma advantage down to just one point at 27-26 ahead of the final routine of the game. Routine two was Alma's final call, and the Scots executed to a 4-3 routine score, bringing the final score to 31-29, and giving Alma their fifth national championship in six seasons.

The game featured three ties and three lead changes, and both teams scored at least one point on all eight possessions that they called. Gabby Sarullo was named tournament MVP at the conclusion of the game.

The Scots finish the year at 13-2, and look forward to the 2027 season, when the NCAA will sponsor STUNT as a championship sport for the first time.
