ALLENDALE, Mich. – Hitting the mats for a pre-nationals showcase and a chance to be scored in front of judges before traveling to Daytona Beach, the Alma College cheer team took part in the Grand Valley State University Laker Cheer Classic on Sunday, March 29th. Both teams, Spirit Rally and Advanced All-Girl, took first place in their respective divisions for a Scots sweep in the competing divisions.
In Spirit Rally, the Scots placed first with a score of 97.5, edging out the University of Michigan team who scored a 97.0 for the top honors. Spirit Rally looks to defend their National Championship at Daytona in Division III after setting program records in their first time competing last year in the respective division.
Advanced All-Girl also claimed the top spot in the division, outscoring Davenport University's All-Girl squad, 87.0 to 82.0. The Advanced All-Girl team looks to win their sixth consecutive National Championship in Division III. Last year, the Scots sat in second place after their preliminary round performance and overtook first for their first comeback championship in program history.
Alma will head down to Florida to compete in the National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) National Championship on the Bandshell in Daytona Beach from Thursday, April 9th through Saturday, April 11th. Performance times will be released soon and updated under the schedule tab when available.
