ALMA, Mich. – Returning to competition inside the Art Smith Arena for the final time of the season, the Alma College men's wrestling team hosted the Mid-States Invitational, welcoming over ten teams to the middle of the mitten. The Scots placed two wrestlers on the day in the top eight of their respective Weight class.
Alma highest finisher came in sixth in the 125-pound division as Jushawn Ferrel Jr needed one win en route to the placement. Ferrel's lone key win of the day came against Dakota Phillips from Mount St. Joseph University, where Ferrel collected a win by decision, winning a close match 4-0 helping him place sixth in the tournament.
Colton Kennedy was Alma's other placer for the day, finishing eighth in the 133-pound division. Kennedy also needed one key win for his eighth-place finish as he defeated Eugene Barrientes of Adrian College by major decision, 14-6.
Other Scots wrestlers picking up wins on the day included Waylon Lamkin (2) and Jaymes Wildfong.
Alma will now prepare for the NCAA Central Regional to take place on February 27th and 28th in University Heights, Ohio at John Carroll University. Matches are expected to begin at 10:00 AM each day.
