ALMA, Mich. – Hosting their final Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association dual of the season, the Alma College men's wrestling team hosted the Trine University Thunder into Art Smith Arena on Thursday, February 5th. Alma competed hard all night in a dual where six matches ended in decision by close scores, though the Scots did not come out on top, trailing to the Thunder by a final score of 31-6.
Alma's first win came from Dominic Gumtow as he was able to push through a hard-fought match and battle throughout the full time in a win by decision over Tommy Miller, with the final score ending at 13-10 in favor of the home team. Gumtow's win game Alma three team points to cut the Trine lead in half. The Scots picked up another win in the 285 class as Cayden Bell traded points and takedowns back-and-forth with Davin George in another match then went the full time. Both wrestlers matched up well against one another though Bell would get the victory over George, scoring a takedown with under a minute remaining, to secure a win by decision, 11-6, giving the Scots another three team points.
Alma will now remain in town with a short break before hosting the Mid-States Invitational on February 14th inside Art Smith Arena. The matches for the invitational are set to begin at 9:00 AM.
