No. 2 STUNT Splits Season Opener at Kentucky

Alma defeated Saint Mary's before falling to host Kentucky

Lexington, KY – No. 2 Alma College STUNT opened their 2026 season on Sunday with a pair of games at the University of Kentucky. The Scots split the day, defeating No. 10 Saint Mary's (TX), before falling to No. 2 Kentucky.

No. 2 Alma - 24, No. 10 Saint Mary's (TX) – 1

Alma opened their season in dominant fashion against Saint Mary's. Alma scored the first eight points of the game, sweeping both the first and second quarters cleanly. In the opening period, Alma scored on routines five, one, seven, and four. In the second, the Scots won routines seven, four, three, and one. Alma led 8-0 at the halftime break.

Out of the half, Alma scored on routine four, before a routine eight call by the Scots resulted in no point for either team. Closing out the period, it was Alma winning routines two and five to lead 11-0 at the end of three. In the fourth quarter, the Scots swept three of the four rounds, scoring a perfect 3-0 on routines four, six, and two. On routine one, Alma earned all possible points, but Saint Mary's was within two deductions on one segment, resulting in the Rattlers earning a point, and Alma earning two. In total, the routine was scored 4-1 Alma, and the final score rested at 24-1.

The fourth quarter point marked the first time that Alma had seen the updated rule about points within two deductions. Going forward, any time that a team loses a routine, or a portion of a fourth quarter routine, by two or less deduction points, the losing team will earn a team point, and the winning team will be awarded two team points. This is a deviation from the past protocol, which did not award the losing team any points, and the winning team received one.

In game two, Alma faced off with the second ranked varsity Division I program in the country. The Scots tied with the Wildcats on routine three to open the game, but saw Kentucky take routines seven and six. Trailing by two, Alma tied out routine five to close the quarter down 4-2. In the second quarter, the Scots played an even game, but lost out by the slimmest of margins. UK took the opening round, routine four, within two. The teams then tied routine seven, before Kentucky grabbed wins within two in routines three and eight to close out the opening half with the Scots down 11-6.

Out of halftime, it was Alma's turn to scrape out a win within two, flipping a routine six call by the Wildcats to get back within four. Unfortunately, things continued to not break Alma's way. Kentucky won the next three rounds all within two, routines seven, eight, and five. The Wildcats led 18-11 after three. In the fourth quarter, there was almost nothing separating the two sides. The teams tied out routines five and seven, with Kentucky winning routine three 4-3. Closing out the game, the sides tied out routine eight, with the final score 33-25 Kentucky.

The Scots are off to a 1-1 start, and are back in action on February 8, with a pair of games at Ferris State University.
