Women's Golf Opens Up Conference Play

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Opening up their conference season on a cloudy Monday afternoon, the Alma College women's golf team took the short trip to Grand Rapids to compete in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Jamboree #1. The Scots finished eighth overall in the first of six conference rounds with a score of 343 (+55). 

Addison Wressell and Sarah Ream, both sophomores, led the scoring for Alma posting 83s (+11) at Thornapple Pointe Golf Course, finishing tied for 21st in the field. Katelyn Jacot was the next Scots scorer with an 88 (+16), ending up tied for 40th. One shot behind was Jada Zerlau and Leea Gorman, both scoring 89s (+17), finishing two spots behind Jacot in a tie for 42nd. Scoring as the individual for the day was Kelbi Roman, who shot a 93 (+21) finishing tied for 50th overall. 

Kalamazoo College came away with round one as the lowest scoring team, shooting a team score of 315 (+27) beating out Trine University by one-shot over the 18 holes. Just three more shots back was Hope College who finished third with a 319 (+31). Individually, Jacey Merkle from Kalamazoo came away as the tournament low, with a 74 (+2), winning by one shot over Rylee Smith of Trine who fired a three-over 76. 

Alma will now have a week off before returning to MIAA action when they will travel to The Medalist Golf Club, hosted by The University of Olivet. Tee times for the Tuesday Jamboree are set for 1:00 PM.
