KANSASVILLE, Wis. – Competing in one of the largest and strongest fields in the Midwest, the Alma College women's golf team traveled to Wisconsin to compete in the Midwest Region Classic, a two-day tournament hosted by Benedictine University. The Scots currently sit in 30th in the 40-team field with a day one score of 378 (+90).
Kelbi Roman leads the Scots after one round, shooting a 90 (+18) on day one to place her in a tie for 128th overall. Freshman Grace Mitchell, competing in her first collegiate round, and Leea Gorman both finished round one with 94s (+22), tying them for 160th overall in the tournament field. Charliese Erickson was the next Scots scorer with a score of 100 (+28), tying for 183rd. Competing as the individual, in their first college tournament, Damien Gagnon posted a 102 (+30), tying for 190th overall. Lakyn Zimmerman, also competing in her first tournament finished round one with a score of 103 (+31), tying for 194th.
Leading the way on the team side, the University of Northwestern-St. Paul, completed day one with a team score of 303 (+15), seven shots better than Aurora University, who currently sits in second place. Individually, Paige Johnson of UNW holds the medalist position after a first round 72, staying level par and holding a one-shot lead over several golfers.
Alma will return to action bright and early tomorrow as they will compete in the second and final round at Brighton Dale Links at 8:30 AM central time.
