COLDWATER, Mich. – The Alma College men's golf team opened up play at their final tournament of the season, competing at the MIAA Spring Finale, hosted by Trine University at Bella Vista Golf Course on Wednesday May 7th. After round one, the Scots currently sit in seventh place in the tournament with a score of 328 (+40).
Coming in as the low score for Alma was Peyton Ried who was competing as the individual. Ried finished the opening round with a two-over 74, placing himself in fifth-place in the field. Ried collected four birdies on his round, three of which coming in a row from hole 14 to hole 16. Alma's next best finisher in round one was Andrew Skellenger, who fired a 78 (+6), finishing in a tie for 14th overall. Skellenger carded two birdies for his round with one coming on each nine. William Lightle finished tied for 27th in the field, shooting an 81 (+9), for Alma's next best finish. Max Kraniak was close behind his teammate, finishing in a tie for 34th, carding an 83 (+11). Not far behind was Alex Bates, who rounded out day one with an 86 (+14), finishing in 42nd place overall. Bates tallied two birdies on the front nine of his round as well. Rounding out the scoring for the Scots was Jaden Ducharme, scoring a 91 (+19) for a finish in 46th position.
After day one, Calvin holds a three-shot lead over Hope College in the tournament, putting up a team score of 299 (+11), the only team to break 300 on the day. Individually, Cameron Bozyk from Adrian College sits in first-place shooting a 71 (-1) after the first round, taking a one-shot lead over Matt Turcotte of Calvin University into day two.
The tournament will resume for the final round on Thursday, May 8th, with all the teams teeing off at 8:00 AM, looking to conclude the 2024-25 conference season.
