#3 STUNT Opens National Tournament in Convincing Fashion

Nashville, TN – Alma College STUNT was down in Tennessee on Friday, competing at STUNT Nationals. The 3rd seeded Scots, seeking their 5th consecutive STUNT national championship, defeated 6th seeded Central Michigan, before knocking off 2nd seeded Michigan State.

(3) Alma 13, (6) Central Michigan 0
In game one, Alma came out flying. The Scots scored the first three points of the game in the opening quarter, converting on routines 2, 4, and 1. A tricky call 8 from CMU resulted in a no point, giving Alma a 3-0 lead after one. The Scots continued to fire on all cylinders in the 2nd quarter, converting routines 4, 7, 2, and 6. With a sweep of all four points, Alma carried a 7-0 lead into the halftime break. 

Out of the half, a routine 7 yielded no points for either side, before the Scots ripped off another 3-0 scoring run. Scoring on routines 5, 4, and 2, Alma led 10-0 after three. Sweeping a routine 3 in the first round of the final quarter, the Scots built an insurmountable 13-0 lead, bringing the contest to an early end.

(3) Alma 15, (2) Michigan State 4
In game two, Alma took on the 2-seed in Michigan State. The Scots struck first, flipping a routine 7 called bt MSU on the game's opening routine. Alma went on to tie out the next routine, and convert routines 4 and 3 to take a 4-1 lead after the first. MSU would tie out the first routine of quarter two, before Alma scored points on routines 7, 2, and 3 to increase the lead from three to six. The Scots led 8-2 at halftime.

In the third quarter, routines 6, 1, 7, and 2 were called. Alma would score on every routine, with a Spartan challenge leading to one point on a tie for the opposition. Holding a 12-3 lead, the Scots iced the game by winning the first round of the final quarter three points to one. The ensuing 15-4 score was too much to mathematically be overcome by MSU, and the contest came to a close.

Alma moves on to the winner's bracket final tomorrow evening, where they will take on top seeded Oklahoma State.
