SAUGATUCK, Mich. – The Alma College women's golf team also returned to competition on Saturday, April 12th, as they competed in round two of the Hope Spring Invitational at Clearbrook Golf Club. Alma stayed put in third-place, though their day two score improved by eight shots, for a weekend tournament total of 712 (+136).
Two Scots tied for the team low in round two on Saturday as Sarah Ream and Lydia Back both closed out the tournament with 83's (+11). Back's round included two birdies while Ream collected one over the 18 holes. Back's one-shot improvement from day one gave her a weekend total of 167 (+23), which tied for third overall. Ream's six shot improvement from round one propelled her into the top ten for a sixth-place finish with a two-day total of 172 (+28). McKenzie McManus and Leea Gorman both tied for the next lowest score for the Scots with 93's (+21). McManus totaled a two-day score of 179 strokes, placing her in 12th place overall in the field. Gorman's day two improvement placed her into 22nd position overall with a tournament total of 196 (+52). One position behind was Addison Wressell, who also improved on day two with a score of 97 (+25), which placed her into a tie for 23rd. Rounding out the Scots lineup, playing as the individual was Kelbi Roman, who shot a 107 (+35) on day two, totaling 202 for the weekend and lacing 26th overall.
Chandler Sjoersma from Calvin University held onto her round one lead and came away as the individual champion with a two-day total of 158 (+14), shooting an 80 (+8) on day two. Sjoersma teammate Andrea Diemer finished in second with a two-day total of 163 (+19), five shots behind the leader. Calvin also came away as the team champions with a tournament team score of 669 (+93), finishing ahead of Hope College by six shots total.
Alma will now turn their attention towards their final event of the season, the MIAA Spring Finale, which will take place on Monday and Tuesday, April 21st & 22nd, at Binder Park Golf Club. Tee times for the season finale are set for 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM.
