ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Alma College women's golf team returned to action this spring on Friday, April 11th as they traveled to Saugatuck, Michigan to play Clearbrook Golf Club for the Hope Spring Invitational. Alma sits in third-place after round one of competition.
Senior Lydia Back led the way for the Scots, with a round one score of 84 (+12), placing her in solo fourth in the field. Back's round included two birdies on the back nine en route to the 84. Just two shots behind was teammate McKenzie McManus, who shot an 86 (+14), which placed her alone in seventh after round one. McManus recorded a birdie on the front nine of her opening round as well. Finishing in a tie for tenth, Sarah Ream closed out day one with a score of 89 (+17), also recording one birdie for the Scots. Playing as the individual, Kelbi Roman closed out day one with a 95 (+23), placing her in a tie for 19th overall in the field. Not far behind were teammates Addison Wressell and Leea Gorman, who shot 101 (+29) and 103 (+31), respectively, placing 23rd and tied for 24th after the first round.
The Calvin Knights lead the team scoring following round one with a team score of 334 (+46), followed by Hope College with a total of 339 (+51), just five shots back. Calvin's Chandler Sjoerdsma leads all players with a six-over 78 in round one, leading her teammate Andrea Diemer by one shot.
Alma will return to the course at 9:00 AM to compete in round two of the Hope Spring Invitational.
