DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Alma College cheer team hit the mat inside the Ocean Center Arena for Division III Spirit Rally for the first time in program history. Alma took to the mat in a Division they have never competed in before while also still competing in Advanced All Girl, though the teams are made up of separate athletes. Spirit Rally incorporates Sideline and game day sheering with overall entertainment value and crowd leading skills. After their prelim's performance, Alma currently sits in first place with a score of 95.30.
Following behind the Scots in Division III was the University of Texas at Dallas with a score of 93.60, followed by Thiel College, who scored a 90.00. Rounding out the top five was Penn State-Behrend, who scored an 86.70 and East Texas Baptist University, scoring an 84.10. SUNY Cortland, Tufts University, Austin College, Fitchburg State University and Central College also competed in the division as well, for ten total teams in Division III.
Alma will now have some time to prepare for their final's routine, which they will perform in the last slot allotted to Division III based on their first-place finish in prelims. Following their first-ever time competing in Spirit Rally, Alma looks to take home a second National Championship for the first time in program history as well.
Spirit Rally finals will take place throughout the morning on Saturday, April 12th, with the Scots performing at 12:30 PM, followed by awards right after their performance.
