Spirit Rally Takes Top Spot as Cheer Showcases Routines at Laker Cheer Classic Ahead of Daytona

ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Alma College Cheer teams traveled to the west side of the state to participate in the Grand Valley State University Laker Cheer Classic on Sunday, March 30th. The Spirit Rally Team claimed top honors while the Advanced All-Girl team finished second for the showcase.

For the Advanced All-Girl division, Davenport University, competing in Division II, came away in the top spot with a score of 87.9. The teams are scored out of 100.0 possible points based on the routine and the difficulty they possess. Alma finished second with a score of 84.8, while leaving their best performances to come as they prepare to head to the National Cheerleaders Association National Championship in Daytona Beach, Florida. The competition will take place from Thursday, April 10th through Saturday, April 13th, on the Bandshell and the Ocean Center.

The Alma College Cheer program will have an additional team competing this year at NCA Nationals as well in Spirit Rally Division III for the first time in program history. The Spirit Rally team is made up of another set of 20+ cheer members performing "game day" or sideline style routines. The Scots performed this for the first time in a competition setting at Grand Valley and were named the champions with a score of 58.2 out of 60.0 possible points. Alma finished ahead of Michigan State University's team by about 2.5 points for the top spot, taking home a first-place oar as the hardware.

Alma will perform their routines one more time in the state of Michigan before hitting the road and journeying down to the sunshine state for their biggest event of the year at NCA Nationals. The Scots will perform their routines on Saturday, April 5th, at 10:30 AM in the Art Smith Arena as part of their final sendoff and a senior celebration. There is no cost to attend and cheer on the Scots as they prepare to compete for multiple national championships in 2025!
