ANGOLA, Ind. – Competing in their second weekend of the season, the Alma College men's wrestling team traveled across state lines to Angola, Indiana, for the Trine Invitational on Saturday, November 8th. The Scots gathered some wins on the day as the young team gained more experience with another weekend under their belts.
Carter Melonio had another solid showing on the mat securing two wins in the 165 division. Melonio opened his day with a win fall over Jetson Rodgers Jr. from Southwest Michigan College in 1:56 time. Melonio then gathered another win by fall over Zachary White Jr. from Manchester University, this time on four minutes flat.
Luke Martin also snagged two victories on the mat as well winning his first match of the invite by decision over Trey Tobias (8-1) from Trine University. Martin then suffered a setback in his next match before grabbing another win over Albert Wadlington of Manchester by fall in 3:49.
Paul Wilson garnered two wins additionally after dropping his first bout of the day. Wilson would earn his first win over Race Eckles of Albion College by tech. fall (20-3) in 5:17 time. Wilson then added another victory by major decision over Xander Lachance of Trine with the final score being 12-3.
Ruben Rivera was the final Scots wrestler two score two victories at the invitational, opening his day with a win over Dakota Johnson from Trine, winning by tech. fall (17-2) in 2:08 time. Rivera would be defeated in his second match of the day before returning to the win column over Mario Orueta of Rochester Christian University, where he was awarded a victory by medical forfeit.
Other Scots wrestlers to earn victories for the tournament included Aiden Tornberg, Colton Kennedy, Jaymes Wildfong and Waylon Lamkin.
Alma will have a weekend off before returning to the mats for the Comet Duals hosted by The University of Olivet on Saturday, November 22nd. Matches are set to begin at 9:00 AM in Olivet, Michigan.
