SAUGATUCK, Mich. – The Alma College women's golf team continued along with their fall season opening up conference play in Saugatuck, Michigan, at Clearbrook Golf Club, hosted by Hope College. Alma rounded out the first round of conference play in seventh place with a 359 (+71), five shots behind sixth-place Kalamazoo College. Saint Mary's College came away on top with a team score of 313 (+25), eight shots ahead of Calvin University.
For the Scots, freshman Sarah Ream led the way with an 83 (+11) that included three birdies for the round. Ream's performance led her to a tie for 16th place overall. Katelyn Jacot came in behind the freshman with a 91 (+19) to finish in 40th overall. Jacot's round included six straight pars on the back nine for a 40 on that side. Just one shot behind was McKenzie McManus who closed out the day with a 92 (+20), who finished in a tie for 41st. Again, just one shot behind the sophomore was Lydia Back and Jada Zerlaut, who both finished their rounds with 93's (+21), to tie for 43rd overall. On the individual side of action, Taylor Cotter completed her day with a 97 (+25) to tie for 51st in the field. Charliese Erickson rounded out the scoring for the Scots individually as she ended her round with a 113 (+41), finishing in 58th place.
Melanie Maier from Saint Mary's and Grace Dubec of Trine University tied for the medalist honors with three-over 75's, to lead the field.
The Scots will now have some time off before traveling across state line and across the lake to Wisconsin to take part in the Midwest Region Classic, hosted by Benedictine University.
