RICHMOND, Ind. – The Alma College women's golf team continued play in the Indiana University East Fall Invitational on Saturday, August 31st, finishing out round two and the overall tournament. The Scots improved on day two by eight shots to put up a team score of 338 (+50), and finish in eighth place as a team with a weekend total of 684.
Again, newcomer Sarah Ream led the way for Alma in the tournament overall posting a day two score of 82 (+10) to finish the weekend with a total of 160 and in a tie for 12th place overall. Lydia Back finished behind ream with an 86 (+14) in round two for a consistent weekend total of 171 and a tie for 31st overall in the field. Jada Zerlaut dropped her score on day two by three shots also shooting an 86 (+14), as she finished the weekend in 38th place with a 175. Improving by ten shots from round one to round two was McKenzie McManus who posted an 84 (+12) on day two, bumping her up the leader board into a tie for 40th place with her two-day score of 178. Charliese Erickson rounded out her first collegiate tournament with a 93 (+21), for a two-day total of 183, and finished in 46th place overall. Rounding out the scoring and improving by eight shots on day two was Katelyn Jacot, who finished with a weekend total of 186 and in a tie for 49th place.
Rylee Smith of Trine University was named the medalist for the tournament after a two-day score of 146 (+2). Host Indiana East came away with the team title after shaving seven strokes off their day one total for a day two total of 307 (+19) and a weekend score of 621.
The women will not have some time to perfect their craft before conference play will begin on September 12th as they will travel to Clearbrook Golf Course, for the first MIAA Tournament of the season hosted by Hope College.
