STUNT Sweeps Lexington Visit with Ws Over DI #2 Kentucky, DII #6 Ashland

Alma, MI – Alma College STUNT opened their 2024 season on the road at Transylvania University. Alma was the top ranked team in Division III in the preseason STUNT rankings. Kentucky was #2 in Division I, and Ashland was ranked 6th in DII.

#1 Alma 17, #2 Kentucky 13

The Scots jumped on the Cats early, scoring points on every routine in the first quarter. Kentucky managed to tie a pair of points, but Alma left the opening quarter with a 4-2 lead. Out of the break, Alma increased the lead to 5-2, before UK got hot. The Wildcats scored 3 straight points to close the quarter, and if it weren't for Alma tying the final routine, the Scots would have been tied. However, the Scots held a slim 6-5 lead at the half.

Kentucky tied the game up on the first routine of the third quarter, before Alma took that lead right back on the next call. The teams tied out the quarter on the remaining two routines, and the Scots held a 9-8 advantage heading into the final quarter.

The Wildcats tied the game once again at 10 in the fourth quarter, winning the first routine 2-1. Alma earned all three points on the next call, and finally pulled three points clear after winning the third routine. The three point gap meant that Kentucky could at best tie the Scots and force overtime with a sweep of the last routine, but Alma had other plans. The visitors earned 2 of 3 points to pull out a 4 point win over the Division I Wildcats.

#1 Alma 24, #6 Ashland 4

Alma's second game was a much more dominant game from the Scots. Alma earned 24 of 24 possible points in the win, and held Ashland to 1 point until the third call in the final quarter.

The Scots return home tomorrow to take on Concordia-Chicago and #2 Hiram College. The games will also be Alma's National Girls and Women in Sports Day celebration, as well a celebration of STUNT gaining NCAA Emerging Sport status.
