Shawnee, OK - Alma College STUNT took to the road to take part in the Oklahoma Baptist STUNT tournament. Alma went 3-2 on the weekend.
#2 Oklahoma State 16, #1 Alma 13
Alma opened the weekend against the second ranked club team in the country. A rough first half saw Alma fall behind 4-1, and later 8-2 at the half. A strong third quarter brought Alma back into the game at 8-5 entering the final quarter. However, it wasn't enough, as OKST pulled out a 16-13 win.
#1 Alma 24, #7 Maryville 3
Alma's second game came against Maryville, who is ranked in the top 10 DII teams in the nation. Alma tied the opening call, which would turn out to be the only point that Alma surrendered in the first half. Alma ran out to an 8-1 halftime lead. Alma scored every point in the third quarter, and maxed out with 12 points in the fourth quarter to run away with it, 24-3.
#1 Alma 22, #3 Dallas Baptist 4
The Scots got a break before playing Dallas Baptist. Alma won the first quarter 3-1, and took the second frame in similar fashion to lead 6-2 at halftime. The Scots maxed out in points for the remainder of the game. Alma outscored DBU 12-2 to cruise to the win 22-4.
#1 Alma 23, #10 Southern Nazarene 0
Alma's opener on the final day against Southern Nazarene went just about as well as it could. The Scots led 8-0 at the halftime break, and cruised all the way home to a dominant 23-0 win.
#2 Oklahoma Baptist 15, #1 Alma 14
The final game of the tournament for Alma came against hosts Oklahoma Baptist. OBU came out swinging, and put Alma down 4-1 off the jump, pushing out to an 8-3 lead at the halftime break. Alma used an advantage in jumps and tumbling to pull closer in the third quarter, and rallied hard in the fourth quarter. In the final routine, Alma trailed by just 1 point. Although the execution was there, Alma failed to earn the points to tie the game, falling 15-14.
The Scots move to 11-3, and look to March 16, when they'll host Heidelberg and Muskingum, and look to wrap up a second straight Mid America East conference championship.
