ANGOLA, Ind. – The Alma College men's wrestling team hit the road again for a Saturday individual tournament hosted by Trine University. Colton Kennedy was the lone Scots wrestler to place in the top 5, as he placed fifth in the 133 division.
Kennedy opened up his tournament with a win by major decision over Dominic Sumner of Manchester University, winning 13-2. Kennedy then battled his way through a close match with Maddox Cade of Heidelberg University, winning in sudden victory 7-4 to move along throughout the bracket. In the championship semi-final match, Michael Kallimani, the eventual second-place finisher, would defeat Kennedy by major decision, 17-4, for his first loss of the day. Picking up in the consolation semi-final match, Kennedy would ultimately be defeated by fall to Robert Davis, though Kennedy would have one more match. In the fifth-place bout, Kennedy was awarded a victory by no contest over Kaden Lapaugh of Southwestern Michigan College, claiming fifth-place for the tournament.
Cael Huggler was Alma's next wrestler that collected several wins at the Trine Invitational, though he started his tournament by dropping a close match by decision. Huggler then rebounded with a win by decision over David VanDaele of Rochester Christian University, 8-4. Huggler then added another victory, this time by fall over Kevon Russell of Indiana Technologial University in 1:01. Huggler then recorded his final win of the day by major decision over Carter Mock of Heidelberg University, 10-1.
Jaymes Wildfong, Carter Melonio, Luke Martin, Doug Morris and Brody Miskimon all each recorded a win at the tournament as well for the Scots.
The wrestling team will now have a weekend off from competition before returning to the mats on Saturday, November 23rd, where they will travel to The University of Olivet for the Comet Duals. The Scots will Compete against Kings College, John Carroll University and Heidelberg, with matches starting at 9:00 AM.
