Alma Splits to Kick Off Home Tournament, Improves to 6-1

ALMA, MI—The Scots kicked off day one of their two-day home tournament with two games. They played Concordia University of Ann Arbor and Davenport University. 

Game 1 – Alma vs. CUAA

The Scots swept the Cardinals with an 18-0 final score to start their day. They look the lead right away, finishing the half at 8-0. In the second half, they were able to stay victorious and earn 10 more points, taking the score to 18-0. The last two routines of Quarter 4 were not preformed. 

CUAA forfeited six of the chosen routines throughout the game, and in this situation, Alma still preformed and was judged against the standard. In each case, Alma was awarded a point. 

This game brought Alma's record to 6-1. 

The last game of the day was between Alma and Davenport. The Scots missed the win by just one point. 

Game 2 – Alma vs. Davenport

The Scots opened the game against rival Davenport looking quite strong but were only able to get one point on the board. The Panthers scored three in the first quarter. In Quarter 2, the Scots earned two points, both in ties with the Panthers. At the half, the score was 7-3.  

In the third quarter, Alma and Davenport tied at 3-3. The fourth and final quarter was a battle against the two teams. Alma won the quarter 7-4 but came up one point short when the teams tied in the last point of the game, finalizing the score at 13-14. 

During the game, there was three challenges. Alma called the first challenged, and it was accepted with no score change and Alma kept their timeout. 

Davenport called the second challenge on incorrect counts. The challenge was accepted and there was no change in score. 

The third and final challenge of the game was called by Alma, and it was a challenge on omission. The challenge was accepted, and the score was overturned – the Scots won a point back. 

This game brings the Scots record to 6-2. 

 The Scots are back in action on March 11 at Hiram College to play Hiram College and Muskingum University.
