Grand Rapids, MI – Alma College Swimming took part in the final day of action at the MIAA Championships. After the waves settled, the Scots finished in 5th place on the women's side, and 6th on the men's side.
Alma recorded 15 season bests, and 9 lifetime bests in the morning session, with 3 more swims finding marks inside the top 10. The Scots also scored 19 finals appearances, and knocked off an 8 year old school record as well.
Megan Neeley got the day started, placing 5th in the mile. Eli Mull followed that up with a 5th place finish in the Mile on the men's side as well.
Neeley (2:14.21.), Sofia Floros (2:16.22), and Marissa Luzac (2:19.09) placed 11-12-13 in the women's 200 backstroke. For the men, Jack Knoper took home 11th place with a 2:00.16, and Nate Toth claimed 13th place on the men's side with a 2:02.07.
Grace Ludema claimed 9th place, winning the B Final of the women's 100 free in a time of 53.34. She was joined by Laney Voisinet, who finished 15th with a 55.25.
Emily Diener and Lily Smith finished 14th and 15th with times of 2:38.24 and 2:40.66. On the men's side, Matt Arrigoni pumped in a 2:20.14 to take 14th, and Andrew Smith placed 16th with his time of 2:22.10.
A trio of Scots placed in the women's 200 fly. Dani Ries claimed 12th (2:22.79), with Abby Haag (2:28.59) in 15th, and Mackayla Pirie (2:59.43) in 16th. The men also grabbed 3 scoring places in the B Final. Ryan Gray, Andrew Ludden, and Jon Beerbower all finished under 2:07 to nab a 13-14-15 finish.
The final event was the 400 free relay. On the men's side, the Scots A Relay placed 6th with a 3:21.91, while the B Relay took home 13th. The women saw an 8 year old record broken, as the A team of Grace Ludema, Megan Neeley, Sofia Floros, and Laney Voisinet set a new Alma College program record with a 3:40.09.
The Scots wrap up an incredible season that saw the program take another step forward, and will look to build on the successes of 2022-23 next season.
