Men's Swimming Tied for 4th, Women 5th in Tight Midpack Battle at MIAA Championships

Holland, MI – Alma College Swimming and Diving continued action at the MIAA Championships on Thursday. A pair of Scots records were lowered, and Alma sent a number of swimmers to finals in a solid day.
 
The Alma men opened day 2 finals with the relay team of Matt Arrigoni, Andrew Barrett, Max Nielsen, and Brent Riehl combining to take 7th in the 200 Free Relay. The Scots B team of Luc Lawson, Seth Stahl, Jon Beerbower, and Ryan Gray scored a 10th place finish. Eli Mull kicked off the individual efforts for the night. The sophomore lowered his current Alma College 500 Freestyle record, clocking a 4:44.93 to take 10th place. Riehl also scored a 7th place finish in the 50 Free. His prelim time of 20.83 lowered his Alma College record in the event. 
 
Alma's A relay of Gray, Arrigoni, Nielsen, and Mull took 10th in the 400 Medley Relay. The B-team of Frederick Kelly, Beerbower, Barrett, and Lawson took 11th. The Scots men are deadlocked with Albion in a tie for P4 at 131 points. 3rd place Kalamazoo sits a decent 49 point gap away from Alma. Olivet sits in 6th behind the Scots by 43 points.
 
The Scots women saw their night open with a 6th place finish from the 200 Freestyle A relay team of Megan Neeley, Laney Voisinet, Sofia Floros, and Grace Ludema. The B-team of Anya Drewnicki, Emma Figlewicz, Madilyn Mendez, and Lily Smith took 10th. Neeley turned around and took 6th place in the 500 Freestyle, clocking a 5:17.56. Floros and Mendez also scored in the event, 12th and 16th respectively. Figlewicz took home 16th in the 200 IM. Ludema (12th) and Voisinet (14th) teamed up with Danielle Ries (15th) as Alma placed three in the 50 Freestyle.
 
Neeley, Smith, Ries, and Ludema took 6th in the 400 Medley Relay. Also teaming up to score a 10th place finish was Marissa Luzac, Voisinet, Figlewicz, and Drewnicki. Alma's women sit in 5th after 2 days of action with 153 points. The Scots trail 4th place Kalamazoo by just 9 points, and 3rd place Albion by 30. Alma is ahead of 6th place Olivet by 71 points.
 
The Scots have a battle on their hands in the midfield with the following events on the docket for day 3:
