18 Finals Performances For Swimming Headline Day 3 of MIAA Championships

Grand Rapids, MI – Alma College Swimming took part in day 3 action at the MIAA Championships. After the third day, Alma sits in 6th place on the men's side, with the women moving up into 5th place.

Alma posted 14 season bests, and 13 lifetime bests in the morning session alone, with 3 more swims finding marks inside the top 10. After bringing back just 4 individual finals swims yesterday, Alma found themselves qualifying for 18 finals appearances in the evening session.

The first highlight of the evening came outside of the pool, as Reagan Stambaugh was honored by the MIAA as the conference's women's swimming Senior Impact Award winner.

Dani Ries kicked off the evening session with the first A Final appearance for the Scots in the meet. She took 8th place in the 100 fly with a time of 1:00.98. Abby Taylor also scored a 12th place finish in the B Final with a time of 1:05.59. The Scots occupied 3 of the 8 lanes in the men's 100 fly B Final. Ryan Gray (54.72), Andrew Ludden (55.05), and Jon Beerbower (55.29) took home 13th, 14th, and 15th place in the event.

Marissa Luzac found a time drop from her morning session time, posting a 5:11.12 to take home 12th in the 400 IM. Also scoring in the B Final with her was teammate Mackayla Pirie, who finished in 16th with a 5:45.85. Matt Arrigoni scored a 13th place finish on the men's side with a 4:25.65, and Nate Toth finished in 15th with a 4:27.55.

Grace Ludema finished over a second ahead of the nearest swimmer to take home 9th place, winning the 200 freestyle B Final with a time of 1:59.90. Megan Neeley (2:01.37) and Laney Voisinet (2:02.21) were both within 3 seconds of their teammate, taking 13th and 14th.

In the 100 breaststroke, Emily Diener swam a 1:11.20 to take 12th place, and Lily Smith also scored in 14thposition at 1:12.34. Andrew Smith picked up 15th place with his 1:04.47 on the men's side.

Sofia Floros (1:03.21) and Luzac (1:04.84) both scored next to one another in the 100 back, bringing back 10thand 11th place. Andrew Ludden followed up a solid prelim backstroke performance with a 58.19 to score in 14th place.

The final event was the 200 yard medley relay. Luzac, Smith, Abby Haag, and Reagan Stambaugh teamed up for a 6th place finish. Floros, Diener, Ries, and Taylor combined to take 12th place. On the men's side, the team of Ludden, Smith, Gray, and Toth picked up a 6th place finish. The team of Jack Knoper, Gavin Swiecicki, Tyler Horstman, and Kyle Scheck came home in 13th.

After 3 days of action, the Scots women are in 5th place with 216 points. They jumped Olivet today, and lead by just one point heading into the final day of action. The Alma remained in 6th place with a team score of 161, still trailing Olivet by a total of 30 points.
