GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.— The Alma College STUNT team traveled to Davenport University on Sunday, Feb. 6 to compete against Central Michigan University and Davenport University. The Scots finished 2-0 on the day.
Alma started the day off with a win over Central Michigan, 21-1. This was Central Michigan's first STUNT game. Alma scored every point for a perfect game and CMU tied the partner stunt three.
Next, the Scots faced Davenport University in a double-overtime contest for a close win, 19-18. This was Alma's first time beating the Panthers since 2018 and the first time beating them on their home turf.
"I cannot put into words how proud I am of this team. They have worked so hard this season and to see that pay off today was amazing," Head Coach Michelle Sabourin said. "I know that this win is a moment that they will never forget."
The first quarter of partner stunts started with Davenport's call. Alma won the first point off stunt three then the Panthers fired back with a point off the Scots' call of stunt four. The next point ended in a tie. Alma finished the first quarter with stunt five and a point to them in the lead, 3-2.
The second quarter of pyramids and tosses was a split between both teams to gain three points each for half time score of 6-5 with the Scots in the lead.
Davenport found an edge over the Scots in the third quarter of jumps and tumbling with two points off routine four and eight and a tie in routine six. Alma added another point from routine five to put the score at 8-8 heading into the fourth quarter.
Team routines ended in another tie and an overturned challenge from Davenport to push the game into overtime. The first round of overtime was a tie on all three levels to push to the second round of OT. The second round was tie in stunt and tumble, but Alma took the pyramid routine and the game, 19-18.
Next, Alma competes at home against Michigan State University and Hiram College on Sunday, Feb. 13.
